DODGEgallery is pleased to present Appetites: Cassie Raihl. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Cassie Raihl arranges unpredictable combinations of fabricated, cast and modified objects, often obscuring the differences. Balance, weight and physicality drive the interplay of minimal forms that stack, lean and hang awkwardly, humorously, and interdependently. Centered around cast foam pedestals (shock absorbers: balanced heavy bags), flanked on the wall by an index of Raihl's objects, Appetites is working with the unevenness of our desires and the ways we exercise them.

Deploying a diverse range of materials, Raihl offers everyday objects as a means of corporeal connection. Wax, rubber and latex hint at the worlds of fetish while exercise clothes are sewn to become weights of their own. Glass and foam are strapped together to make a hard body and beach bikini tee's and body-print towels combine and then recombine.

Cast free weights, dog bowls and monster energy drink cans: everything is hand-wrought, altered or perverted. There is play here, at times a submission to material and at others an exhibition of control.

Funny and flawed the works nod to our insecurities and their toys.
