Ellen Harvey was born in 1967 in Kent, United Kingdom. She received her BA from Harvard University in 1989 and her JD from Yale University in 1993. Harvey participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York from 1998 to 1999. Her work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY; Sculpture Center, Long Island City, NY; MoMA PS1, Long Island City, NY; Bass Museum, Miami, FL; Turner Contemporary, Margate, England; Queens Museum of Art, Queens, NY; Wave Hill, Bronx, NY; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, PA; Center for Contemporary Art, Warsaw, Poland; Pennsylvania Academy, Philadelphia, PA; Arnolifini, Bristol, U.K.; S.M.A.K., Gent, Belgium; and Gwangju Biennial, Gwangju, South Korea. She has completed public commissions for CTA Arts in Transit, Chicago, IL; MTA Arts for Transit, Bronx, NY; Art Production Fund at the Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas, NV; Percent for Art at Marcy Plaza, Brooklyn, NY; Federal Art in Architecture program at the IRS Building, Andover, MA; and Amelbergakerk, Bossuit, Belgium. Harvey’s work has been reviewed in Artforum, Art in America, The New York Times, Artinfo, ARTnews, Frieze, Modern Painters, and Flash Art, among others. Her work is included in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Fidelity Investments, Hammer Museum, Rema Hort Mann Foundation, Neuberger & Berman, The Progressive Collection, Queens Museum of Art, West Collection, and Gwangju Art Museum. Gregory R. Miller & Co published a comprehensive monograph: Ellen Harvey: The Museum of Failure, in 2014. Harvey lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
